Where Do Allergies Come From? (And How to Reverse Them)

A man with allergies blowing his stuffy nose

Most people with allergies think they’re stuck with these annoying symptoms for the rest of their life. They’re worried the rashes from food sensitivities will get worse. They’re worried that their stuffy noses will last longer every time the trees open.

Most people also don’t know about this elite treatment that retrains your body to stop reacting to allergens. First, it’s important to understand where your allergies come from.

Where allergies come from

Your immune system is in charge of keeping your body safe from attackers. That’s why when you get sick, you get stuffy noses, fevers, rashes, and other uncomfortable symptoms. These are all techniques your body uses to drive the bacteria, virus, or other bug out of your system.

Runny noses act as a filtration system that removes junk and harmful particles. Fevers try to kill the harmful substance while activating the fighters in your immune system.

However, sometimes your immune system gets confused. Western scientists are still trying to figure out exactly why this happens.

In Eastern medicine, allergies form when your immune system becomes weak from losing too much of its vital energy from stress, toxins, or other harmful factors. In 1911, an Austrian scientist coined the term “allergy” from the Greek words allos, meaning “altered,” and ergeai, meaning “energy.”

Your immune system is controlled by an energy called defensive qi (pronounced “chee”). When this energy is altered and weakened, it becomes more sensitive and reacts inappropriately to harmless substances like food, pollen, pets, chemicals, and even other people.

This causes your immune system to activate when you come into contact with allergens as if it has encountered a bacteria, virus, or other bug, causing the allergy symptoms you want to avoid.

You might not give stress enough credit for how it affects your physical body, but the two are strongly intertwined. Stress causes your vital energy to diminish, making it difficult to fortify your systems and create a strong sense of health and well-being.

Other types of qi, including kidney qi, lung qi, and spleen qi, directly affect your defensive qi’s ability to flow strongly and support your immune system. This is why you might be more prone to developing allergies if you smoke, exercise too much or too little, practice shallow breathing, smoke, overexpose yourself to pollution, over-think, and other factors that have a particularly strong influence on these energies. Your kidney qi can also be inherited from your family, which explains why you might have the same allergy as your mom, dad, or grandparents.

How do you fix your immune system?

Restoring your defensive qi will help calm your immune system and reteach it which substances are safe versus dangerous. But how do you achieve that?

With 20+ years of experience, OHM Acupuncture specializes in a technique called NAET. This approach to reversing allergies combines muscle testing and acupuncture to calm your immune system, causing it to stop reacting to allergens.

Muscle testing helps you determine which allergens you’re sensitive to. When exposed to an allergen, your muscle will become incredibly weak. We’ve had patients who were shocked that their strong muscle essentially became the equivalent to Jell-O when exposed to an allergen.

Once your acupuncturist determines which allergens you’re sensitive to through muscle testing, you can get started on treatment. Your acupuncturist will choose specific acupuncture patterns that target the energies responsible for your weakened immune system and allergies.

The energy in your body, and in this case your defensive qi, act like magnetic fields. Think about how a phone tower gives your phone service – it utilizes wavelengths through a magnetic field to send information to your phone that provides connection. Phone towers use metal to control and influence this magnetic field.

The same thing happens with your energy. It can be controlled with metal signaling tools, in this case needles, to influence the flow of energy. When blocked, acupuncture needles can cause your vital energy to flow again.

Specific acupuncture points influence different energies in your body based on an energy meridian system. Your acupuncturist will encourage and stimulate energy flow by placing needles in blocked meridians.

OHM Acupuncture has used this technique on hundreds of patients to successfully calm their immune systems and reverse their allergies with results that last for years.

If needles make you nervous, there are alternatives to stimulating this energy and reversing your allergies. Vibrational buzzers can also be used on the same meridian points to stimulate energy flow and unblock your defensive qi.

If you struggle with allergies and want to reverse them, make an appointment with OHM Acupuncture. Our years of experience and dedication to our craft combined with a rare knowledge of NAET make us uniquely qualified to address your allergy concerns. Finally be able to eat foods you’re sensitive to, get the pet you thought you’d never have, or fully enjoy spring and summer when the trees open up.
